she is watering her plants less
skipping several days
but that's okay
time has passed since she visited the plant nursery in the Spring picking out annuals
and if she can muster a little motivation
she might make her way to the nursery again, this time looking for the 75% off clearance on perennials
or she might miss out because she feels lazy, in the 100 + degree heat,
she just wants air condition and a popsicle treat
whatever; hair in a bun, flips flops, t-shirts, target runs
it's the end of the season feeling
the feeling of whatever
kind of slips in here and there
and says "hello! I see you letting go"...before
soon she will tidy up loose ends
clearing Summer clutter
gearing up to buy school supplies.
In Tulsa the schools usually start back in mid-August.
So, the summer slowness ends as we turn the calendar
all the while the heat is turned up.
It's a sticky, sweaty, bright red face time of year.
Currently we are in the thick of remodeling our home, while living with my parents. All the flooring has been pulled up and removed. Cabinets unhinged and sanded. Jeff has opened up the rooms; knocked down walls and then reframed them. Hours of electrical wiring has been done. Can-lights installed and old fixtures taken down. We are onto filling the second dumpster now.
And the house has no air condition.
It feel likes the August heat wants to squelch this momentum we have gained by making all the work that much harder.
But just around the corner if we can push through the next few steps, the roofers will come, and once the roof is fixed we can get air-condition! Then it's time to paint, then install the floors! And then eventually we will move in,
and get to settle into our home.
I am going to try to keep this end in sight as August begins and projects continue, and I will pray for help when I feel like complaining. Because often when I feel like complaining, I need prayer!
An August Prayer
When intensity rises
in work or at home
in relationships or projects
even in the weather
instead of complaining Lord, we turn our complaints into prayers
and ask for your help, your refreshment, and your grace.
We pray for strength. We wait on you. We meditate on your words.
"When you go through deep waters,
I will be with you.
When you go through rivers of difficulty,
you will not drown.
When you walk through the fire of oppression,
you will not be burned up;
the flames will not consume you.
For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior."
