Hello August Rain

May they fear you while the sun endures,
and as long as the moon, throughout all generations!
May he be like rain that falls on the mown grass,
like showers that water the earth!
In his days may the righteous flourish,
and peace abound, till the moon be no more!
— Psalms 72:5-7

I listen to the rain,

sitting on my bed,

laundry piled next me,

waiting to be folded and put away.

Maggie curled by my side.

August days are here.

Bible opened to the Psalms.

Heart waiting on and hoping in You.

We wait together, we hope together. We get through the hot August days together.

Friends and family

We are all witnesses to the heat, the drought, and the renewing rain.

"So, we borrowed our neighbors riding lawn mower." My friend tells me. "And of course it broke while we were using it."

I laugh to myself the next day when our own lawn mower won't start. Jeff goes to buy a new battery.

"How are you feeling?" Another close friend texted me yesterday.

"Better now that I am in my second trimester, but also my baby bump is so much bigger than it was with Oliver and I still have a long way to go. Trying to embrace it!" She responds that she was the same way during her second pregnancy.

"I felt sooo huge-I only took a few pictures but really wish I'd taken more just for posterity lol"!

Kindness falls like rain in the form of bearing witness to daily life with each other. Not physically holding hands, but coffee cups hand in hand on playdates, or phones hand in hand while texting.

We are simply here on this earth together. not alone.

And that is a gift we give to each other, simply being here. Let the beauty and strength of that not be underestimated.

I went to a horse themed 3 year old birthday party this past weekend.

So that morning as I was flipping through a devotional; Earth Psalms by Francine Rivers, I decided to read the devotional about horses titled "The Power of Two."

On the drive home one afternoon, I spotted two large horses in a field. The animals stood parallel to one another, each one’s head to the other’s tail end. Tails swished as the kept annoying flies away from each other’s face. The constant buzzing of flies must be a great irritation- but it’s more than just a nuisance. If given time and opportunity, flies can deposit bacteria, larvae, and parasites in the horses’ eye. These two horses worked as a team to protect one another.”

Oh life's little and big irritations; broken appliances like lawn mowers, discomfort during pregnancy, sweating in the August heat waiting for the car to cool down, these aren't major things, but even in the mundane and the miniscule let us not underestimate the support and encouragement we can bring to each other. This encouragement may start in the small but can carry over into bigger issues we face; disappointments, hardships, lies of the enemy, or discouragement too.

Praying you find the gentleness of understanding, connection, and a kind companion in your relationships during this month of August.
