an invitation to wonder

find beauty & faith while reflecting on the 7 natural wonders of the world

1. an invitation to wonder: welcome

God moves through nature-and souls-like a whisper on water and he cannot be held back.
— Emily P Freeman, A Million Little Ways

The purpose of this blog is to create a garden of sorts for your soul, and a gentle place to gather strength.

A garden you can come to explore or to simply sit and be.

See, there goes a pale yellow butterfly.

A bluejay in the sky...

2. the great barrier reef

She realized life was a wonderful mysterious thing full of persistent beauty.
— LM Montgomery, Emily of New Moon

Off the Australian coast

floral coral for miles  (an area of some 135,000 square miles)

900 islands

fringes and ribbons of reefs

a labyrinth of complexity...

3. a prayer in the air

A short prayer inspired by the whimsical Northern Lights.

We draw people to Christ not by loudly discrediting what they believe, by telling them how wrong they are and how right we are, but by showing them a light that is so lovely that they want with all their hearts to know the source of it.
— Madeleine L'Engle, Walking on Water

Because today it sounds nice to turn our eyes towards some lovely light;

imagine, you are in Alaska or Iceland with your closest friends...

5. victoria falls

Everything about the waterfall makes me feel like it understands; it understands forces beyond our control. It understands times of desperation when we are coming towards the edge. It understands moodiness and mess. It understands when we make mistakes. And it knows this water of life, that redeems it all into a beautiful waterfall.

6. the grand canyon

Canyons are symbolic to me of the beauty of authenticity and vulnerability. When we expose the layers of our history and who we are it reveals deep truths about life that we can appreciate and will help lead us.
— Erin Chinworth

7. Mount everest

And now I come to a mountain,
Mount Everest.
It’s mighty and majestic, covered in snow, the tallest peak in the world.
And I wonder what lesson are there to be found in this mountain so tall and with conditions so fierce?
— Melissa Hirshburg

8. paricutin volcano

We watch and we feel it. We see all the different views and opinions being spewed everywhere. We wait and we hope the volcanic sulfurous ashen air will settle one day, and love will wash away the impurities which make it difficult to breath down here.

Lord, Let your Spirit of love and gentleness fall on us like rain, and purify our hearts. amen
— Melissa Hirshburg

9.  bedtime

By day the Lord commands his steadfast love, and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life.
— Psalm 42:8

There are such sweet wonders to be found at bedtime. Here are just a few...

10. the harbor of rio de janeiro

The statue of “Christ the Redeemer” stands tall over the beautiful but corrupted, polluted city, as a reminder that God knows us fully and still welcomes us. He welcomes us “with a 1000 graces”, with His arms open even while knowing the full extent of our hearts and our sin.
— Melissa Hirshburg
